Mr. Rao shared some interesting briefs with us on the rising prospects of the tourism industry in Kerala.

2015 has been declared as the Visits Kerala year. More impetus will be given on promotions and publicity this year.

There are two policies that the tourism industry plans to undertake, strengthening the existing market and looking for new markets and destinations.

In 2014 almost 1 million international tourists visited Kerala and 55 per cent were from Europe, 10-15 percent from U.S.A., 10-12 percent was from the Middle East and the rest from Japan, Korea and China and since the focus is on wellness tourism, tourists from Asia are highly sought after.

Kerala is offering very comprehensive travel packages for tourists as Kerala has a combination of beautiful beaches backwaters, wildlife sanctuaries, forests, hill stations all within the span of 700 KM. Kerala is served with excellent hotels and with new plans and policies and more interesting destinations Kerala is definitely strong destination market compared to other states. Being well connected by air, road and rail Kerala is ideal for travellers.

Kerala’s main thrust will be on wellness tourism as tourists from the Middle East come to Kerala for Medical Tourism and prefer to stay for long durations.

They take advantage of the rich Ayurvedic tradition of Kerala.

This demand has been felt hugely since the last3-4 years. Medical tourism is much sought after in Kerala.
