Published on : Tuesday, June 17, 2014

KiwiRailLogo-300x63A collision occurred between a north bound freight train and a digger between Raurimu and National Park at the southern end of the Raurimu Spiral at 9.20 this morning.
The driver of the digger has been injured and taken to hospital by ambulance.
The train driver is unhurt, however as standard practise would be relieved and offered counselling. Counselling is also being provided for other personnel at the worksite.
The digger driver was a contractor working for KiwiRail.
A KiwiRail spokesperson says it is too early to speculate as to the cause of the incident. “Our first priority is the welfare of the injured man and of those others involved in this incident.”
KiwiRail, TAIC, and WorkSafe are investigating the incident.
