Korea, Busan planning to redesign its tourism service

Korea, BusanThe second largest metropolitan city in Korea, Busan-si is planning to redesign its tourism service with “Busan Pass” beginning December 23, 2014.

Previously, the Korean Pass Busan Card was available in 2011, which ran under the supervision of the Busan government and the Korean Tourism Organization; however it was not as well received as it was expected to be, requiring a system of advanced purchases and refunds. By eliminating these processes, Busan-si is to offer a more tourist-friendly experience by launching a new pass, the first transportation card in Korea to introduce a deferred payment system.

Busan Pass cards have a maximum limit of 500,000 won, with charges made and being paid by credit card when returning the pass. With the passes, tourists will get a number of discounts and offers from affiliated stores. At the extra expense of 3,000 won at the initial registration, the pass can also be used as a transportation card, with a maximum transportation amount limited to 100,000 won.

Card holders can claim 10% off for rail services (Korail), 20% discounted admission to Busan Aquarium, and up to 15% off at major accommodations and restaurants located in Busan. More benefits will be announced when the city government signs a business agreement with Lotte Corp. on December 22, 2014.

The pass will be found at major tourist locations in Busan, including Gimhae International Airport, Busan Station, and Busan Port.
