LATAM Airlines Group today announced that it will operate three weekly non-stop flights between Lima, Peru and Barcelona, Spain, beginning 15 December 2016. Currently, around eight per cent of passengers* flying on LATAM Peru’s Lima-Madrid service connect to or from Barcelona. The airline group projects that more than 19,000 passengers per year will fly the new non-stop route.
“Our goal is to be the airline of choice for passengers travelling to, from and within Latin America and that’s why we continue to strengthen our connectivity both in Europe and our wider international network,” said Roberto Alvo, Senior Vice President of International and Alliances, LATAM Airlines Group. “This new direct service between Lima and Barcelona will offer passengers on both sides of the Atlantic greater convenience, shorter journey times and access to more destinations. As an airline group, we now serve six major cities across Europe, offering unrivalled connectivity to more than 110 destinations across Latin America.”
The service will be operated by Boeing 767 aircraft with 216 seats in Economy and 16 seats in Premium Business, offering 180-degree lie-flat seats.
Initially, LATAM Airlines Peru flight LA2430 will depart Lima at 19:50 (local time) on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, arriving in Barcelona (El Prat) at 15:25 (local time) the following day. The return flight (LA2431) will depart Barcelona at 23:55 (local time) on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, arriving in Lima at 07:45 the next day (local time).
From 25 March 2017, flight LA2430 will depart Lima at 19:45 (local time) on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, arriving in Barcelona (El Prat) at 14:25 (local time) the following day. The return flight (LA2431) will depart Barcelona at 23:55 (local time) on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, arriving in Lima at 06:45 the next day (local time).
The flight will complement LATAM Airline Group’s four weekly non-stop flights between São Paulo and Barcelona as well its daily non-stop services from Lima, São Paulo, Santiago and Guayaquil (Ecuador) to Madrid, where customers can connect to and from Barcelona via oneworld partner Iberia. The group also operates non-stop services from Latin America to a further four European destinations: London, Paris, Frankfurt and Milan.
Located on Spain’s Mediterranean coast, Barcelona is one of the Europe’s most popular tourist destinations with attractions including the architectural works of Antoni Gaudí, eight UNESCO World Heritage sites, city beaches and parks, a thriving bar and restaurant scene as well as a warm, dry climate. It is also Spain’s second largest city, the capital of the Catalonia region and a center for commerce, education, entertainment, media, fashion and science.
Lima, situated on the Pacific Coast, is the capital of Peru and one of the largest cities in South America with a population of nearly 10 million people. It is also one of the continent’s most historic cities with the oldest university in the New World, The National University of San Marcos, which was founded on 12 May 1551. Today, it is gaining increasing global recognition as a gastronomic center and is home to some of the world’s best restaurants**.
Lima is also one of LATAM Airline Group’s hubs, offering connections throughout Peru – including up to 23 daily flights to Cuzco, the gateway to one of the world’s seven wonders Machu Picchu – and to destinations across Latin America.
The airline group also announced last week that it will increase frequency on its Buenos Aires- Miami route from seven to 11 flights per week, beginning 15 December 2016.
