itemImage_56It was joy and tears as Heather Haythorpe, a good friend and business supporter of Serena Hotels celebrated her 70th Birthday- courtesy of the Hotels at the Nairobi Serena. “…She has been planning this particular trip for sometime now and getting her family and friends to join her makes this particular visit very special to us…” These were the words of Mr. Killian Lugwe, the Nairobi Serena General Manager when he first sent out the invitations to the dinner.

At the dinner held on 10th May 2011 and attended by Serena Management and Staff, Ms. Haythorpe remained calm and pleasantly surprised as the events of the evening unfolded. Her husband Peter who also accompanied her on this special trip for the very first time in nearly thirty years was overwhelmed as he softly mentioned how his wife had continued to travel and bring tourists to East Africa.“…my wife fell in love with Africa many years ago…” he continued.

Speaking at the dinner, Ms. June Kyula- the Assistant General Manager of Nairobi Serena narrated her experience with Ms. Haythorpe who has remained a loyal business partner, client and friend of Serena Hotels for almost three decades now. “…In over ten years that I have been lucky to work with Heather, she has been here at least twice each year. This year however is different and special because she brought along nearly all the special people in her life, among them being Ms. Lynne Blair who will be taking over as Heather retires…” she said.

Working closely withSopon Safari Kenya, Ms. Haythorpe has over the years promoted tourism to Kenya and the entire East Africa by bringing in tourists from all over Europe and Australia. Besides business, she has over the years supported the Maasai and Samburu communities through fundraising towards the construction of schools. This she has done together with her long term friends Mr. and Mrs. John Gregson who have notably visited and promoted Serena Hotels business six times during some of Ms. Haythorpe’strips to East Africa over the years.

During her 24days visit to Kenya, Ms. Haythorpe, her husband Peter and friends will visit various Serena properties around the country. Some of the properties will include Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge, Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge, Mara Serena Safari lodge, Sweetwaters Tented Camp, Serena Mountain Lodge and Nairobi Serena Hotel. The entire Serena Hotel Management and Staff are upbeat and will be looking forward to spending these very special days with Ms. Haythorpe even as she retires.
