The new Budapest-based aircraft engineering services center will focus its activities around the Boeing 737 aircraft – one of the most popular types among narrow-body, medium-haul aircraft – and some general non aircraft type related support services, the press statement said.

Through the expansion, Lufthansa expects to create approximately 50 new aviation engineering jobs in the center with a range of activities that will be connected to the Boeing 737 type of narrow-body aircraft, including aircraft system engineering, trouble shooting, maintenance program management and job cards engineering.

Lufthansa Technik Project Manager Marcus Knoth expects the first recruitment process to start in July.

Additionally, Lufthansa Technik AG is planning to transfer several non-aircraft type related services to the Budapest engineering center such as aircraft engine condition monitoring, aircraft flight data and reliability data compilation and technical documentation services.

Budapest was one of four Central and South-Eastern European airports competing to host the new center offering high-value jobs to aviation engineers, the company said.

“I see our company decision to create a new aircraft engineering center in Budapest as an acknowledgement of our fifteen years’ presence here in Hungary and the strong performance especially in recent years. Lufthansa Technik has become a center of excellence in aviation services at Budapest Airport where major European and overseas airlines will always find reliable partners,” said Dietmar Focke, CEO of Lufthansa Technik Budapest.

“We are proud and happy that Budapest has become the winner of a very tough competition among European airports.” said Róbert Ésik, President of Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA).“The highly qualified, well-trained and devoted workforce was one of the factors that influenced Lufthansa Technik’s decision positively to broaden their aviation services in Budapest. Hungary is committed to creating a favorable business environment for all investors who think in the long term,” Ésik added.

“Budapest Airport sees the opening of the new aviation engineering center as yet another major step in widening the business focus at Hungary’s main aviation gateway, which ranges from passenger flights and cargo services, retail, property and logistics, aircraft maintenance and now to aircraft engineering. Our partnership with Lufthansa Technik is beneficial to the Hungarian economy by creating high tech jobs here at the airport,” said Jost Lammers, CEO of Budapest Airport.
