Malaysia Airlines passengers from flight MH192 of 20 April 2014 successfully boarded the retimed flight at 3.35pm on 21 April 2014. Many top Malaysia Airlines management members were present to send-off the passengers. The retimed flight landed in Bangalore at 4.57pm local time today, 21 April 2014.
A burst tyre that left debris on the runway sparked off a flurry of activity that resulted in an air turn back to KLIA. MH192 to Bangalore, India, operated on a B737-800 aircraft was carrying 159 passengers and 7 crew members landed uneventfully at KLIA at 1.56am on 21 April 2014. The Airport Fire Rescue Services (AFRS) were deployed as soon as the pilot was instructed to turn back to KLIA.
Malaysia Airlines, Chief Executive Officer, Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said, “Professionalism of our crew is what saved the day for flight MH192 last night which departed Kuala Lumpur at 10.09 pm bound for Bangalore. I was there to meet the passengers and crew when they disembarked. Instead of chaos and fear, everyone spoke highly of the professionalism of the Pilot, First Officer and the cabin crew. I am so proud of the team, and how they managed the situation on board MH192 earlier this morning.”
Upon the uneventful landing, all passengers were disembarked and sent to the hotel to wait for the retimed flight.
One of the passengers, Pritesh Jain who was seated at seat 22A said, “We heard a loud noise upon take-off and the aircraft shook. I knew something was wrong. The pilots were very quick to act and they kept communicating with us,” said Pritesh who was travelling alone.
Basavaraj Udapud, another lone traveler said, “The communications from the cockpit was on-going. There was also an emergency landing drill done by the cabin crew. Everyone was already reciting prayers but the situation in the aircraft was very calm. It was under control. The crew managed it well. Everyone cheered and clapped for the Captain when the aircraft finally stopped. It was a nerve-wrecking experience,” he added further.
A cardiologist, Dr. Lisa was also on board MH192. Seated in Business Class she was off to Bangalore from Sydney to attend a pre-wedding ceremony in Bangalore. She was calm and composed but kept asking the crew if something was wrong even in beginning stages. “I sensed something was wrong and soon after the Captain made the announcement. The lady next to me was hyperventilating and I kept telling her to calm down. The crew was calm and I was hoping that no one developed a medical situation as that would make things even worse and distract the crew from what they were really supposed to do,” she added.
Malaysia Airlines is extremely thankful that all passengers and crew onboard MH192 are safe. The decision to turn back was done with the safety of those on-board MH192 in mind.
Malaysia Airlines is currently preparing a report of the MH192 incident to be submitted to the Ministry of Transport, Malaysia.
