Mandarin Oryear, iental, Hong Kong is pleased to announce that, for the third it will be the Official Hotel for Art Basel in Hong Kong this March.
To celebrate this partnership with Art Basel, Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong will offer guests a series of bespoke services ranging from an exclusive Art Stay and an art-inspired menu at the Michelin-starred Mandarin Grill + Bar and, for the first time, Pierre, to art-inspired chocolates and cocktails, and a relaxing treatment to revive the feet after the bustle of the show.
The hotel will also host three independent art exhibitions for guests to view unique and diverse works of art.
The Art of Pierre Gagnaire
UBS is partnering with Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong’s award-winning Pierre restaurant during Art Basel to present a special menu created by Michelin-Star Chef Pierre Gagnaire and inspired by works from the UBS Art Collection, which will be on exhibit in the restaurant for the first time.
The seven-course dinner menu, with highlights available during lunch, will be served from Wednesday, 11 March, until Saturday, 21 March, with Chef Gagnaire in residence 11 March to 17 March. This special exhibition will include artworks by MadeIn Company, Lee Ufan, Cy Twombly, and Sigmar Polke, among others.
UBS holds one of the world’s most important corporate collections of contemporary art with works by the newest talents to some of the most famous artists of the last 50 years. UBS regularly loans works from the collection to museums and public exhibitions.
“I am pleased to welcome such exquisite art pieces to the restaurant. The world of art, in which I include cooking, brings me joy and is a daily inspiration. The entire Pierre team will therefore pay tribute through our menu to the great artists featured during the Art Basel show in Hong Kong,” said Chef Pierre Gagnaire.
Aries by Jason Hackenwerth at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong
Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) alumnus and international artist Jason Hackenwerth will exhibit a custom balloon installation at Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, where his work will be suspended from the hotel lobby ceiling.
Students from SCAD Hong Kong will help create the bright, brilliant, and kinetic sculpture—titled Aries—that will feature orange, magenta, and pink hues, immersing guests in the gradient glow of the sculptural forms.
The giant, whimsical sculpture—created with hundreds of latex balloons—will be on display from Monday, 9 March, to Thursday, 19 March, and best viewed from the Clipper Lounge restaurant.
Imagined Geographies at The Clipper Lounge
From 9 to 19 March, the Clipper Lounge will home “Imagined Geographies”.
This exclusive exhibition will be curated by Hong Kong-based Gallery EXIT featuring artworks by Chris Huen, Gabriel Leung, Ivy Ma, and Lulu Ngie.
Including paintings, photographs, and installations, the nine works on display will present interpretations of landscape.
Traditional en plein air painting, Chinese shanshui landscape ink painting, taxonomic photography, and even black and white movies are communicated through morphological and architectural elements.
As a result, these landscapes are the manifestation of each artist’s imagined geography, encouraging more innovative thinking and inviting imagination. Known as a rendezvous for both social and business meetings in Hong Kong,
