maryleboneChiltern Railways travellers at London’s Marylebone station were surprised by historical characters from four periods of British history when the cast of Warwick Castle’s Horrible Histories Foul Fayres escaped for a day out in the capital before starting work at Easter.

A Smashing Saxon and Viscous Viking seemed intent on battling out their differences on the concourse whilst a Vile Victorian schoolmaster and a bewigged Gorgeous Georgian lady kept commuters in check.

Passers-by were invited to enter a competition to win a full day out at Warwick Castle including return train travel with Chiltern Railways – which serves Warwick Town, only 86 minutes from London Marylebone – by uploading a selfie with their favourite historical character to social media: the most popular photo won the prize.

The Vile Victorian schoolmaster said: “In my day, children were seen and not heard but nowadays they run amuck enjoying themselves on days out to places like Warwick Castle. Come see me in my classroom at the Castle and we’ll soon see how they like a little discipline.”

Commenting on her capital day out, the Gorgeous Georgian said: “These horseless carriages, or trains as Chiltern Railways call them, are marvellous inventions and although spacious for my dress, I would ask that they make a little more headroom for my wig on my next trip to London.”

Enjoy Horrible Histories Foul Fayres at Warwick Castle from 5 April. Chiltern Railways links London Marylebone and Warwick in just 90 minutes from £6 per person.
