Mauritius and Reunion Island: Have Lot to Offer to Leisure and Adventure Travelers

They might be represented by a few of dots on the global map, but these two volcanic islands—Mauritius and Reunion Island, which are amazingly beautiful and have a lot to offer to leisure and adventure travellers. Although they are hardly 200 kms apart, both the destinations have their own unique features, to give visitor a unique experience.
Mauritius: It is not just an island nation in the Indian Ocean, but it is also a union of different cultures and religions, and a melting pot with Hindus, Catholics, and Muslims inhabiting the island. Tourism is Mauritius’ primary source of livelihood, followed by sugarcane cultivation and fishing. Mauritius is a small paradise and is resistant to tsunami, since coral reefs surround the entire island.
Mauritius offers a wide range of hotel options to suit your pocket. In Mauritius, the roads are straight and narrow. Since sugarcane cultivation, is their source of livelihood, as you enter the countryside, you will see more of sugarcane plantation. There is a famous joke in Mauritius: A family might not have a child but will definitely have sugarcane plantation.
Being an island destination, water sports activities are must in Mauritius, and there are no second thoughts about it. You cannot leave Mauritius without experiencing its water sports activities. If you do not know swimming, no problem, there are other underwater activities besides scuba diving and snorkelling.

Submarine dive and subscooter dive are the two activities that are conducted by only Blue Safari in the Indian Ocean. There is no need to get wet to get closer to sea life and see real shipwrecks. The Blue Safari subscooter dive will take you three mts into the water to the marvelous world of sea fishes and coral reefs. Reunion Island: is a French island located between Madagascar and Mauritius, a half-an-hour’s flight from Mauritius is Reunion Island. Reunion Island proposes an endless variety of landscapes, white sand beaches, sun, sea and lagoon, wonderful mountains, white water activities, waterfalls, forests, and volcanoes.

Saint Dennis is the capital of Reunion Island and French is the official language. However, Creole, a local language, is spoken generally on the Island. The Island’s volcanic origin has created a landscape of unique relief.
With a range of natural habitats and authentic cultures, 40 per cent of the Island is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Reunion’s natural heritage makes it one of the 34 world biodiversity hotspots, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The National Park of Reunion now covers 40 per cent of the island’s surface area, and has led the ‘Pitons, Cirques and Remparts’.

Reunion also has three calderas—the Cirque de Salazie, the Cirque de Cilaos, and the Cirque de Mafate (reachable only on foot or by a helicopter). The Piton de la Fournaise, a shield volcano on the Eastern end of Reunion Island, is created by a hotspot volcano, which also created the Piton des Neiges and the islands of Mauritius and Rodrigues. A helicopter tour to three cirques and piton is an awe-inspiring way to experience this amazing sight.

Cirque de Salazie is the largest and greenest of the Island’s three natural amphitheatres. Located about 45 kms away from Saint Dennis, one of the most incredible sites of this cirque is the towering waterfall called Le Voile de la Mariée. This captivating little mountain town is Creole culture at its finest, boasting of enchanting Creole houses and colorful flower gardens that simply delight the eye.

The lack of automobiles and paved roads make Cirque de Mafate a favourite destination for hikers.
The Island offers adventure activities like trekking, whitewater rafting, surfing, canyoning, paragliding, sky diving, scuba diving, etc. The peaceful and pleasing island destination can offer a Reunion with Mother Nature!
