20140615-2141_mThe major cargo industry players at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) have founded a registered association called Air Cargo Community Frankfurt e.V. to consolidate FRA`s position as a major global air cargo hub. The association will represent and promote the interests of air cargo companies, optimize logistics processes and function as the single voice of this vital industry.

Air Cargo Community Frankfurt currently counts 15 member companies from the freight forwarding and logistics industry, covering the entire process chain for freight handling. The member companies have set the goal of creating a new, binding framework for closer cooperation at Frankfurt Airport. Their common objective is to develop Frankfurt Airport as the most advanced air cargo hub in Europe by the year 2020.

At its membership meeting on May 22, the association elected a six-member Board from its four member groups – representing the airlines, handling agents, freight forwarders and other service providers – in the cargo industry. The airlines are represented on the board by Michael Hoppe (BARIG e.V.), the handling agents by Patrik Tschirch (LUG aircargo handling GmbH), the freight forwarders by Markus Kampa (Cool Chain Group DE GmbH) and the other service providers by Andreas Heil (KEWILL GmbH). Fraport AG’s Anke Giesen and Lufthansa Cargo’s Dr. Karl-Rudolf Rupprecht are also Board members. All of the Board members serve a two-year term.

The Board will strive to have an integrated approach and to represent the interests of all companies involved. Under the association’s bylaws, Board decisions must be carried unanimously. At a meeting on June 10, the Board elected Dr. Karl-Rudolf Rupprecht as Chairman of the Board and Anke Giesen as Deputy Chairwoman. Thereafter, Roland Weil was appointed as Executive Director and Siegfried Burghardt as his deputy.

“The strength of our association lies in the fact that we encompass the entire air cargo industry in our ranks, making us a powerful advocate for the industry,” commented the newly appointed chairman, Dr. Karl-Rudolf Rupprecht. “A decisive factor for the constructive cooperation of the members is that we are combining our expertise and ensuring its targeted use for the benefit of all members,” said Rupprecht.
