MTA-Rail-ImageMTA Metro-North Railroad will continue to provide bus service between Yonkers and the New York City Subway terminal at 242nd Street on Tuesday as repair work is ongoing at the site of a Hudson Line derailment last weekend.

The railroad is cooperating fully with the National Transportation Safety Board, which is the lead agency investigating the accident.

“This is an extremely challenging time for all of us,” said MTA Chairman and CEO Thomas F. Prendergast. “We want to thank Governor Cuomo for his leadership during this crisis and the New York Police Department and the New York Fire Department for their quick response and expert assistance in dealing with this tragic incident.”

With NTSB approval, Metro-North employees have cleared all the derailed cars and will begin to rebuild the damaged track Monday night, an effort that is expected to take several days.

On Tuesday, December 3 limited Hudson Line train service will operate between Poughkeepsie and Yonkers stations and connect with shuttle bus service to Van Cortlandt Park-242 Street for 1 Subway Line Icon Subway service into Manhattan.

People who do not have to travel are urged to telecommute or carpool if possible. Customers also are urged to take Harlem or New Haven line trains if possible. Customers should expect crowded conditions.

Westchester County is making 400 parking spaces available at the Kensico Dam, which is in walking distance from the Valhalla Station. And Putnam County is making 100 spaces available at Southeast Station along Independent Way.

For northbound service, between Yonkers and Poughkeepsie stations only, customers should take the S Subway Line Icon Shuttle from Grand Central to Times Square for No. 1 Subway Service to Van Cortlandt Park-242 Street, where bus service will be provided to Yonkers Station and connect with limited train service to Poughkeepsie.

Special schedules are posted on the schedules page of mta.info.

Hudson Line tickets will be cross honored on the Harlem and New Haven lines. NJ Transit will cross honor Hudson Line tickets on Port Jervis and Pascack Valley line trains.

Customers at stations between Riverdale and Yankees-E.153rd Street stations are urged to use NYC Transit subway and/or bus service. Ludlow customers should use Yonkers Station. Hudson Rail Link buses will operate at Riverdale and Spuyten Duyvil, connecting to 1 Subway Line Icon Subway service.
