Miami International Airport welcomed Dominican Wings to the Miami market on September 30, when the airline began weekly service from MIA to both Punta Cana and Santo Domingo. Dominican Wings is using the Airbus A320 aircraft on both routes.
The Dominican Republic is currently MIA’s fifth-busiest international market, with more than one million total passengers annually.
The addition of Dominican Wings closed out a strong September for MIA, which now has 107 passenger and cargo carriers – the most of any U.S. airport. More are soon to follow, with cargo-only carrier 21 Air expected to begin scheduled freighter flights to Latin America in October, followed by new passenger service launches from KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and PAWA Dominicana in November.
“Congratulations to Dominican Wings, who will join what is already a growing list of new airlines starting service at MIA,” said Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. González. “The new service will provide a boost to one of our top international markets, and continue our push towards a strong finish in 2016.”
