Mitchell Airport Traffic Up 6% In April, Third Straight Month Of Gains

mitchell-airport-logoPassenger traffic at Milwaukee County’s General Mitchell International Airport (MKE) is continuing to climb. 575,548 passengers used Mitchell Airport in April, an increase of 6.4 percent from April of last year.

“Mitchell Airport’s passenger counts have increased steadily since the launch of our advertising campaign letting travelers know that third-party websites such as Expedia, Travelocity and Orbitz don’t include many of MKE’s flights,” County Executive Chris Abele said. “More than half of our nonstop routes can only be found on Southwest.com. These higher passenger numbers reflect that travelers are changing the way they find flights and book tickets.”

“Year-to-date, we’re up more than three percent from 2013, and it will only get busier as we head into the summer travel season,” Interim Airport Director Terry Blue noted. “MKE passengers enjoy nonstop flights to 36 destinations coast-to-coast — many on full-size mainline aircraft — and 150 international destinations are available from Milwaukee with just one connection.”

For more than six years running, MKE remains the region’s low-fare leader. MKE’s average airfare is $67 less than O’Hare’s and $38 less than the national average.

MKE is served by Southwest/AirTran, Delta, United, American/US Airways, Frontier, and Air Canada.
