Mossel-BayMossel Bay Tourism presented its annual report to the city council of Mossel. The city council is the company’s primary funder and it is imperative to report at the municipality’s monthly meeting.

Marcia Holm, Mossel Bay Tourism’s chief operating officer, said, “all the players were informed about our activities, especially as much of the work is done away from home and behind the scenes.”

According to Holm, Mossel was very fortunate to have two distinct advantages in the marketing of the town.

“In Mossel Bay we have more attractions and things to do than most other towns of similar size. This is how we sell the village with the punch line ‘Mossel Bay. Do stuff ‘. It is of utmost importance that attractions such as beaches, museums and outdoor activities are highlighted.

“Internationally, however, archaeologists have evidence of the earliest modern human civilization in the Pinnacle Point Caves dating back to about 162,000 years.

“Thanks to the work of more than 40 scientists from around the world Mossel Bay has been found to be the birthplace of culture and also the birthplace of complex technologies during the latter days.

Holm went on to say that the archeological finds at the town stimulate the interest of scientists and general public worldwide. “We believe that the number of new attractions in our town will soon play a big role in the growth of the tourism economy of the entire Garden Route and Klein Karoo area.”

According to Holm, the unique features of the town are the main focus of the messages delivered by Mossel Bay Tourism through their web-based marketing, print and other liaison efforts.

“Our primary means of marketing is through our website – www.visitmosselbay.co.za. It had registered more than half a million unique visits last year,” she said.

The company’s public relations activities include attending trade fairs and workshops as well as presenting the town’s annual travel festival (Travel Mossel Bay ‘- www.bit.ly/TravMBY – which takes place this year from October 17 to 19). The company also issues media releases to press representatives and members of Mossel Bay Tourism and the public.
