MTA New York City Transit’s FASTRACK program returns to the G Subway Line Icon line in Brooklyn. G Subway Line Icon service will be suspended between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for four consecutive weeknights from Monday, May 12 to early Friday morning, May 16. Free shuttle buses, and F Subway Line Icon trains provide alternate service.
Travel alternatives:
· Free shuttle buses operate between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and the Jay St-MetroTech F Subway Line Icon station making station stops at Classon Av, Clinton-Washington Avs, Fulton St, and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts.
· Transfer between G Subway Line Icon trains and free shuttle buses at Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
· Take the F Subway Line Icon for service between Jay St-MetroTech and Church Av.
· Transfer between free shuttle buses and F Subway Line Icon trains at Jay St-MetroTech.
· A Subway Line Icon service is also available between Hoyt-Schermerhorn and Jay St-MetroTech.
Joseph Leader, Senior Vice President for the Department of Subways, said, “Our FASTRACK efforts have been highly successful in repairing and maintaining a subway system that provides a better work environment for employees and improves train service reliability for our customers.”
During our previous FASTRACK on the G Subway Line Icon line in January 2014, New York City Transit repair and maintenance crews took full advantage of the uninterrupted seven-hour work window, and completed many tasks which included maintenance of station infrastructure elements, replacement of signs, repair and replacement of track components and track cleaning between Bedford-Stuyvesant and Carroll Gardens in Brooklyn.
Workers replaced 32 platform signs, 73 feet of handrail, 264 light bulbs, removed scrap debris from tracks, scraped and cleaned 7,260 linear feet of track, inspected 6,500 linear feet of track, installed 154 track tie plates, and scraped and cleaned 4,950 feet of track under and around the third rail. They also repaired 48 leaks, cleaned 200 feet of drain line, performed maintenance in a pump plant, and repaired 150 feet of bench wall.
FASTRACK has been designed around the careful determination that there is adequate alternate means of transportation, including enhanced services along some bus lines during work periods. Alternative transportation options will be detailed in announcements and posters on trains, in stations and on selected buses.
FASTRACK was introduced in January 2012, devoting four straight weeknights to perform maintenance work in tunnels, stations and on tracks, completely suspending service within a given line segment for a seven-hour period between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., allowing an army of maintenance workers to perform dozens of tasks.
Our next FASTRACK overnight closure, scheduled to begin Monday night, May 19 and ending early Friday morning, May 23, will take place on the A Subway Line IconC Subway Line IconB Subway Line IconD Subway Line Icon lines between 59 St- Columbus Circle and 168 St on the A Subway Line Icon line, and between 59 St-Columbus Circle and 161 St-Yankee Stadium on the D Subway Line Icon line.
