MTA-RailWith the beginning of the long Thanksgiving Weekend, MTA Long Island Rail Road is ready with additional train service to get travelers where they want to go and off-peak ticket pricing they will find very attractive.

Extra Trains for the Extended Four Day Weekend
The extra trains start rolling on Thanksgiving Eve, Wednesday, November 27, with extra afternoon eastbound trains to handle the expected getaway day rush home. On Thanksgiving Day, there are extra trains to get you to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and extra trains to get you home when the festivities are over. There will be extra trains on Saturday, November 30 and Sunday, December 1 as well, making travel to and from New York City, a snap for shopping, dining and entertainment.

Waiting Rooms Hours Extended

And with heavy rain and winds predicted for tonight and Wednesday and high winds continuing into Thanksgiving Day, LIRR station waiting room hours will be extended for the comfort of our customers. Effective today waiting rooms will remain open all day and night for customers until normal posted closing hours on Friday.

MTA LIRR urges all our customers to take extra care when traveling. The Railroad is taking extra precautions to ensure safe travel. Please stay clear of the platform edges, use handrails on staircases and walk carefully when entering or exiting stations and boarding or leaving trains.

Alcohol Banned Overnight Wednesday into Thursday

In the interest of safety, alcohol will not allowed on LIRR trains, stations or platforms from 8PM Wednesday, November 27 through 5AM Thursday, November 28. MTA Police will enforce this restriction.

Off-Peak Fares in Effect Thursday thru Sunday
As a holiday bonus, the LIRR will offer tickets at off-peak prices over the four-day weekend from Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28 through Sunday, December 1. Additionally, the Railroad’s Family Fare Discount will be in effect all four days.
