MTA-Rail (1)The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will release its latest Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) contract offer to New Yorkers in newspaper and radio advertisements beginning Wednesday, July 16.

The advertisements make clear that the MTA has offered significant raises of 17 percent to union employees who are threatening Long Island with a devastating strike. The attached print advertisement will run in all major New York daily newspapers.

The radio advertisement, which will run on nine FM stations and two AM stations, can be downloaded from this link and is transcribed below:

“Unionized Long Island Rail Road workers are the best paid in the nation. They make almost $90,000 a year, get free health care and generous pensions. The MTA offered to up their salary 17% without raising fares or delaying service improvements, by making modest changes for workers who haven’t even been hired yet. Current employees would get everything they asked for. Yet the unions are still threatening to strike. When is enough enough? Get all the facts at mta.info.”

Leaders of eight LIRR unions have threatened to walk off the job at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, July 20, creating a traffic nightmare across Long Island and hurting families and business throughout the New York metropolitan region.
