Multicurrency Visa Card Released in Myanmar

download-52At a press conference held at COOPERATIVE Bank (CB) head office in Latha Township, Yangon on Thursday, CB and Visa International has released EASi Travel Visa card for the first time in Myanmar. Now Myanmar cardholders can use this multicurrency Visa card when they travel to foreign countries and the system, which holds three currencies in one card. The cards can be used in every country, which accepts Visa system, and the card can be used in over two million ATM machines in 210 countries. This marks another milestone in the development of Myanmar’s financial system, opening the global market to natives who are travelling overseas for business and leisure.

U Kyaw Lin, executive vice-chairman and CEO of CB Bank said, “CB Bank has started the first transition of EASi Travel Visa card. User can use three currencies with EASi and we cooperate with Visa for development of Myanmar bank system.”

Mr Somboon Krobteerdnon, country manager of Myanmar and Thailand of Visa (Asia Pacific) said, “This is an accomplishment for CB Bank and Visa cooperation. Payment systems such as using ATM, POS and Prepaid card are developed speedily. Travelers prefer to use card than carrying cash because it is more convenient to use card while travelling.”

The EASi Travel Visa card offers convenience and security at the same time. The card can hold up to three currencies (US$, SG$, Euro). Loss of value of currency can be protected by using this card. User can top up to a maximum value of $5,000 and the initial minimum deposit required is $50. Chip and PIN systems are used for security of card. User need not open an account as the card can be used as a debit card.
