Music Festival Calls for Volunteers

jersey-logoThe Liberation International Music Festival is calling for volunteers with a love of music and time to spare to ensure the success of this year’s event, which is due to take place from 7th – 11th May around Jersey.

Volunteers and hosts are needed for a wide range of jobs, including hosting internationally renowned musicians during the week of the Festival. In addition, helpers are required to assist at various musical events – including greeting guests, checking tickets, helping with car parking, selling programmes and driving musicians to and from their rehearsals and concerts.

Sarah Nibbs, one of the Festival Committee Members, explained: “Being a volunteer at #LibFest is a great way to experience working at unique musical events in a range of Jersey venues. Anyone can offer to help, and we would love to hear from people who have assisted before, as well as new volunteers who would like to see what goes on behind the scenes of this amazing Festival!”

The Festival, which celebrates six years of showcasing Jersey internationally through music this year with a “Reflecting on Russia” theme, is inviting potential volunteers to pop into its Halkett Place offices as soon as possible, to find out how they could help in the run-up to and throughout the five day event.

More than 20 acclaimed musicians feature at this year’s Festival. Its five-day programme starts at 7.00pm on Wednesday 7th May at the Jersey Academy of Music with a celebration of Russian miniatures and ends with an extended day of Jazz at Hamptonne, featuring international stars as well as Jersey favourites the Optimistic Voices. Tickets for all events during May are on sale through the Jersey Opera House website or by calling 511 115.

This year’s line-up of musicians includes conductor Daniel Cohen, Boris Brovtsyn, a Russian violin superstar, the multiple award winning clarinettist Michael Collins, the finest viola player in the UK Philip Dukes, the hottest property in jazz Gwilym Simcock – and many more.

They will also be joined by Jersey artistes and will perform at both formal and al fresco events at venues around the Island including Hamptonne, Le Catel Fort and St Thomas’ Church, as well as Jersey Opera House and more established venues.
