National Horticulture Congress tour to invite impressive visitation

Philippine Horticultural SocietyThe National Horticulture Congress which will be held on January 21-22, 2015 wil be open free to the public. This will be at the Conference Hall of the Bureau of Soils and Water Management in Quezon City.

This was announced by Dorie S. Bernabe, president of the Philippine Horticultural Society, which is holding the event.The Congress aims to open the eyes of the public to the potentials of ornamental horticulture as an honest-to-goodness industry that could open livelihood opportunities even to the ordinary families.

Bernabe said that the PHSI has invited various schools to send their students to attend the Congress. Also invited are the stakeholders in the industry such as nursery operators, local government officials, members of the academe and research institutions, financing institutions and others.

Sen. Cynthia Villar, chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food, will be the guest speaker.Experts will discuss topics like special plant hybridizing techniques, fruit production in the Philippines, indigenous species for landscaping, health and wellness in ornamental plants, action plan for urban vegetable production and others.

A garden tour will be conducted on January 24. The participants will visit the garden of Vic Chin in Calamba, Laguna; Ming’s Garden and Arid and Aroids Garden, both in Silang Cavite. Those interested to join the garden tour should contact the PHSI office
