Official-opening-of-Collinghm-station-car-parkRobert Jenrick MP officially opened a new car park at Collingham station car park today (Monday 1 September).

Mr Jenrick was joined by representatives from Network Rail and East Midlands Trains as well as Bob Imrie from Friends of Coillingham Station to celebrate the new facility.

The new car park at Collingham Station which is on the line between Newark North Gate and Lincoln has been delivered by Network Rail and East Midlands Trains with support from Nottinghamshire County Council, Newark and Sherwood District Council and Collingham Parish Council. It will be managed by East Midlands Trains.

There were no station car park facilities previously; this led to cars being parked along the road side lay-by leading up to the level crossing. Unsafe parking of cars and resulting traffic problems had led to concerns over safety at the level crossing, blocking back and delays to train services. Local residents were also unhappy with passengers leaving cars parked along nearby streets, causing nuisance and blocking driveways.

The new car park will improve safety at the level crossing, cater for the growth in passenger numbers and alleviate nuisance parking which had become a problem for people living near to the station.

Facilities
The car park has the following new facilities:

58 spaces,
three additional disabled parking bays,
direct access to platform 2,
a ramp for mobility impaired passengers,
CCTV coverage for security and crime prevention and
Energy saving LED floodlighting.
