World ROUTES 2013 in Las Vegas had a session on its program entitled New Investment Models with the known and respected Professor Geoffrey Lipman listed as Moderator. Professor Lipman is the President of the ICTP and Director of the Green Earth Travel.
The Panelists for this important session were: Minister Michael Mabuyakhulu, the Minister for Economic Development and Tourism of KwaZulu Natal South Africa, Dr Charles E. Schlumberger of the World Bank, Mrs Mmatsatsi Ramawela of TOMSA of the Private Sector of South Africa, Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture and Dr Adam Wu from the China Development Organisation Wu of the China Investment Organisation.
The session was to see how the Travel and Tourism sector can secure funds for market development and Green Growth transformation with a focus on Africa. The session explored the key challenges and opportunities for securing investment for travel and tourism in the next five years. The session focused on Africa where the need is greatest and on aviation as a catalyst for change. The session looked at the opportunities from Green Growth Transformation and the exciting new opportunities from Crowdpacting and from the role of China.
Each of the panelists delivered a five minute expose of their take, their expectation and on the prevailing situation as seen by them in their day to day experience.
It was clear from the discussions at this lively session of World ROUTES 2013 that their existed a negative perception in the West towards security of investments in Africa. Members of the Panel emphasised that the past in Africa cannot cloud judgement on the Africa of today when it was known that the biggest growth in the world of tourism can only be in Africa.
