sochi-2014-300x159A series of special stamps have added to the philatelic licensed collection dedicated to the XXII Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014. The new edition is dedicated to non-Olympic sports, and awards that winning athletes receive at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
The official cancellation ceremony of the new press sheet “XXII Olympic Winter Games of 2014 in Sochi” was held in the post office of the Main Media Center of the 2014 Games.
The following people took part in the ceremony: Head of the Federal Agency of Communications Oleg Dukhovnitsky, President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko and General Director of FSUE “Russian Post” Dmitry Strashnov.
The new series consists of three separate stamps, each of which shows a gold, silver and bronze Sochi 2014 medal. For the first time, three types of metallic paint were simultaneously used in the creation of the issue – bronze, silver and gold, as well as relief stamping. This technology makes the new “medal” issue even more unique and gives the image of the award a kind of 3D effect – when you touch the stamps they feel like real miniature medals.
There will be 150,000 copies of the new stamp sheets. Thus, each stamp has a denomination: the stamp featuring a bronze medal – 25 rubles, silver medal -50 rubles, and gold – 75 rubles. The stamp sheets are 136×80 mm, and the stamps are 37×26; 26×37 mm. The cover art has also been prepared for release, the inside of which is the stamp sheet and first day cover with the official cancellation ceremonies in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sochi.
The surface of each stamp sheet is marked with a special QR-code with an encrypted link to the official website of the Games in Sochi.
