download6Tourism Minister Karmenu Vella this morning visited a number of hotels in St Julians where final preparations for New Year’s Eve activities were underway.

Mr Vella described 2013 as a very good year for tourism with Malta having already surpassed last year’s record by November.

But he stressed that these positive results bring with them new challenges for next year, particularly to for the numbers to keep increasing.

Mr Vella said that the success of the tourism industry is not measured only by the number of incoming tourists, but also on the registered profits and the services offered.

MTA CEO Josef Formosa Gauci said that the positive results reflected the work and commitment by the government, the tourism authority, the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association and all other stakeholders. MHRA President Paul Bugeja said that that the quality level of Maltese hotels and restaurants is continually on the rise.

Mr Vella visited the Cavalieri, Valentina and Hilton hotels and Palazzo Preca restaurant in Valletta.
