The Grove, London’s five-star golf resort, today announces an important partnership with the world’s biggest single-site amateur golf event, the Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship, which will see the launch of a sister tournament in the UK this summer.
The open-to-all inaugural UK Myrtle Beach World Amateur Championship, supported by Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday, will be staged at The Grove over the weekend of August 27 and 28 and will offer competitors a host of prizes, including the chance to win the golf trip of a lifetime – a place in the 2017 Myrtle Beach World Amateur Championship USA played in South Carolina.
Separate individual 18-hole Stableford competitions will be played at The Grove on each day, with the daily winner from both the Saturday and Sunday events winning the star prize for themselves and a chosen travelling companion.
Each prize includes transatlantic flights from the UK to the USA for two, room-only accommodation in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, car hire and free event registration for the 2017 Myrtle Beach World Amateur Championship, which attracts over 3,000 competitors, and takes place annually.
Second prize on each day will be one night’s accommodation at The Grove, to include dinner and breakfast with a round of golf for two people. Third place receives a round of golf for four people on any day. ‘Nearest the Pin’ and ‘Longest Drive’ winners receive a bottle of champagne and 2x one-day passes to attend The British Masters supported by Sky Sports, in October.
Mirroring the USA event, which is staged the week after the UK competition, on arrival at The Grove competitors will receive a high-value goody bag, and will also be treated like a Tour Pro for the day, with:
– A complimentary welcome breakfast on arrival
– Access to their own personalised locker
– Personalised driving range spot prior to play
– First tee PA announcement before teeing off.
On completion of the round each player can then relax and enjoy a three-course American themed Myrtle Beach buffet.
Anna Darnell, Director of Golf at The Grove, commented: “The Myrtle Beach World Am is a unique concept and we are keen to bring a little slice of South Carolina to The Grove in August. The social side of golf is at the heart of this event and we are sure every guest will have an experience to remember.”
Bill Golden, President of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday, added: “We’ve been welcoming UK golfers to the World Am in Myrtle Beach for 32 years and we look forward to working with The Grove on developing the UK concept and, as a result, also further raising the awareness of Myrtle Beach, where four million rounds of golf are played every year.”
Entry to the UK event is priced at £149 per person.
Already acknowledged in a number of influential Top 100 rankings lists, and rated ‘England’s Number One Pay-and-Play Golf Course’ by Golf Monthly, The Grove’s 18-hole championship golf course, designed by acclaimed architect Kyle Phillips, will also stage The European Tour’s British Masters supported by Sky Sports, and hosted by Luke Donald in October this year.
The resort, set in 300 acres of Hertfordshire countryside and located less than 25 miles north west of central London, offers luxury accommodation in 26 historic Mansion House suites, as well as 191 rooms within the contemporary West Wing, close to the Sequoia Spa where guests can indulge in a variety of treatments and therapies.
