Northern-Territory-300x86Community groups are being encouraged to apply for new Territory Government grants supporting events that commemorate the ANZAC Centenary.

“The 100th anniversary of World War I is an important opportunity to remember the sacrifices made by our Defence forces over the past century and we want community organisations to join in the commemorations of our wartime history,” Chief Minister Adam Giles said

“Earlier this year the Territory Government announced a $4.5 million Territory-wide program of events, including the 2015 ANZAC Spirit Study Tour which will take students to Gallipoli to join commemorations at ANZAC Cove.

“The Anzac Centenary Program will run from August 2014 to November 2018 and will commemorate significant events for Australia from World War I.

“It will also include a Centenary of Service aimed at acknowledging important anniversaries of other conflicts during that time, including the 75th anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin.

“As part of our ANZAC Centenary program, the Territory Government is about to open a special round of grants to help community groups get involved and stage their own events or projects.”

Applications open on July 1 for grants of up to $5,000.
“Local community groups are encouraged to apply, including community and ex service organisations, schools and educational institutions, museums, local governments and other not for profit organisations,” Parliamentary Secretary to the Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro said.

“The money can be used for things such as public commemorative events, restoration of memorials, displays and research projects aimed at raising awareness of the ANZAC Centenary.

“Applications close on 26 September 2014 and funding will be made available from January 2015 to help organisations start planning their commemorative events and activities.”
