South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill has committed a re-elected Labor government to improving CBD access for the O-Bahn to reduce travel times for commuters.

TTF Deputy Chief Executive Trent Zimmerman said this is a welcome announcement.

“This has been one of our key transport priorities for Adelaide for many years and the project is long overdue,” Mr Zimmerman said.

“Upgrading CBD access for the O-Bahn will improve what is already a very popular service, cutting travel times and improving reliability.

“What Premier Weatherill has promised will deliver the missing link for commuters, providing a grade-separated route that links up with the cross-city bus lane.

“This will avoid the congested intersections at North Terrace and Rundle Road, improving conditions for other road users.

“We welcome today’s announcement and are urging the South Australian Opposition to commit to this project as well, noting the benefits for O-Bahn passengers and motorists.”
Mr Zimmerman said linking the O-Bahn to the CBD is critical to Adelaide’s mobility.

“TTF’s Accessing Our CBDs paper identified the O-Bahn City Access project as being a game changer for Adelaide,” Mr Zimmerman said.

“Making the service quicker and more reliable improves the commute of tens of thousands of people each day and will attract new passengers to public transport.

“As the populations in our cities continue to grow, investing in public transport is essential to support their future productivity and live ability.

“Our CBDs in particular play a central role in our economy and projects like the O-Bahn City Access can help ensure that contribution continues to grow.”
