lufthansa-abLufthansa is set to introduce the latest-generation Boeing 747-8 to a new destination. From 29 March, the ‘Queen of the Skies’ will fly daily between Frankfurt and Sao Paolo. Flight LH 506 is currently operated with a Boeing 747-400, the predecessor model of the Boeing 747-8.

The switch to the new aircraft will happen just in time for the World Cup in Brazil this summer, meaning that football fans can experience Lufthansa’s top travel comfort on their journey to the Brazilian metropolis.

In the award-winning First Class at the front of the main deck, passengers will be able to enjoy a very personal service along with a wide range of high-quality food and drink. Each of the eight First Class seats can be fully reclined to form a bed measuring 2.07 metres in length and 80 centimetres in width, allowing for a deep and relaxing sleep. The new Business Class provides passengers with outstanding comfort when lying or sitting. At the push of a button, seats can be converted into comfortable, fully flat beds measuring 1.98 metres in length. 15-inch screens offer a wide range of entertainment to suit individual tastes. The enhanced Economy Class seats also ensure that passengers will have a comfortable travel experience with their own personal in-flight entertainment.

The latest addition to the Boeing 747-8 route network is the eleventh of a total of 19 ‘Dash Eights’ to go into service in the Lufthansa fleet. The new aircraft comes with significant improvements in the area of eco-efficiency: the Gent GEnx-2B engines consume less kerosene and achieve a 15 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions per passenger. In addition, noise emissions are 30 per cent lower.

At 76.3 metres, the Boeing 747-8 is 5.6 metres longer than the Boeing 747-400 predecessor model. The new Lufthansa jumbo jet has room for a total of 362 passengers, with eight seats in First Class, 92 in Business Class and 262 in Economy Class. The service between Frankfurt Airport and Sao Paulo-Guarulhos is the eleventh route that the ‘Queen of the Skies’ will be deployed on. As well as Lufthansa, partner airline Swiss also offers daily flights from Zurich.

Flights to and from Sao Paolo can be booked now on www.lufthansa.com or via the Lufthansa call centre in Germany by dialling 01805 805 805 (EUR 0.14/min. from German landlines; maximum price for calls from mobile networks: EUR 0.42/min.). Customers can also purchase tickets from Lufthansa’s travel agency partners and at Lufthansa ticket counters in airports.
