Some participating yachts from the ‘ClipperRound the World Race’ finally arrived in Singapore on Wednesday after a long and arduous journey from Australia.The 2013/2014 race started in London last September. Competing yachts will have to endure a 64,000-kilometre, 11-month global voyage.Three of the 12 competing yachts arrived on Wednesday, with the rest expected by Thursday. Among the early arrival was the ‘Old Pulteney’ from Scotland, which had a bagpiper to welcome the yacht.
Two Singaporean sailors – Toh Kong Chian and Seet Bee Lian on board the Mission Performance – are part of a second batch of yachts arriving on Thursday.Singapore is the eighth of 16 stops in the Clipper race. It has hosted the competition since 2006.
