Published on : Wednesday, October 9, 2013

riga-airportRestrictions for air transportation apply equally to carry-on baggage and hold baggage, some items, including everyday goods, are prohibited: blue flame and Zippo lighters, lighter fluid, self-defence gas spray, and others. While the summer season is in full swing, Riga International Airport points out that the list of items and substances prohibited for air transportation also includes portable stoves, full oxygen cylinders for scuba diving, and compressed air containers.

The passengers transporting beverages must be aware of the restrictions on carry-on baggage, and the amount of excisable goods permitted for import in a particular country. Food products are allowed both in carry-on and hold baggage, unless the respective country imposes any emergency restrictions on certain products. Right now such a restriction is introduced on the routes to and from Belarus – as of 1 July passengers are prohibited to import into the EU meet and meet products as well as milk and dairy products from Belarus.

Moreover, in accordance with the list of prohibited items issued by the European Commission, and the national aviation security programme, aviation security officers are authorised to request the authentication of medications and food products.

The passengers should also take into account that every airline has its own baggage rules regarding the size, amount and weight of the carry-on baggage and the hold baggage to be checked in. The passengers are advised to carefully read the rules of their carrier published on its home page, or to call the carrier’s enquiry number.
