Peru-witnessesThere were a total of 1.3 million foreign tourists entering destinations across Peru between the period January to May this year, the country’s Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) has reported.

In its latest report on flow of foreign tourists into the Andean nation, the sector noted the reported amount surpasses the figure by 42,083 visitors as compared to last year.

Magali Silva, Mincetur’s head, noted Peru has experienced a strong rise in international tourism arrivals from Bolivia and a number of nations from Europe, while the total number of travellers from Venezuela and Argentina has decreased.

The minister stressed Mincetur has targeted at eight strategic markets the Ollanta Humala administration wish to work with for being major source of tourists worldwide as they represent a key factor to drive tourist growth in Peru.

“One of these major markets is the Chilean, whose citizens are important and usual visitors in Peru,” the senior government official told Andina news agency.

Likewise, Silva pointed out the flow of tourists between Peru and Mexico soared by 17 percent following the first year that visa requirements were lifted.
