“Our estimate is that we will have close to 12,000 people in that date, and let’s not forget that they come and stay at different hotels, or they come to camp, which helps to increase the tourism development in the region,” said Teresa Cueva, head of the regional office for foreign trade and tourism Dircetur.
Cueva said she was optimistic that tourist arrivals in Piura will reach 100,000 only in December this year.
The beaches of Los Organos, Mancora, Vichayito, Lobitos, and Colan are the most popular destinations for beach goers in Piura at this time of the year, she added.
The Dircetur official told Andina that regional authorities are working on plans to construct a highway that facilitates access to 47 different beaches in the Piura provinces of Talara, Paita and Sechura.
And for those interested in sampling the local fare, the restaurants in the small town of Catacaos are the places to visit while in Piura, Cueva said.
