Portugal, South Korea sign MoU to expand tourism cooperation

download-87On Monday, South Kdownload (8)orean President Park Geun-hye met Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva in Seoul and agreed to expand cooperation in renewable energy and tourism. During the course of the meeting, the two leaders exchanged their ideas on expanding cooperation in various spheres including trade and investment,

 

renewable energy, aviation, information and communications technology, shipping and ports and tourism. The two leaders signed two memorandums of understanding (MOU) to cooperate in the areas of renewable energy and energy efficiency and tourism on the sidelines of the summit.

 

 

The tourism MOU will encourage cooperation between the tourism authorities of the two countries, expedite tourism investment and strengthen personal exchange. The presidential office hopes the MOU will diversify South Korea’s tourism market. The presidential office said President Silva’s visit was an opportunity to renew trust and friendship between the leaders. It added that the visit will provide momentum to increase trade between the two nations and boost economic cooperation.

 

 

Silva is the first Portuguese president to officially visit Seoul. It was also President Park’s first summit with the leader of Portugal since her inauguration. However, Park and Silva met once before when Park visited Portugal as a special envoy three years ago in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and Portugal. Park and Silva held a joint press conference following their talks and attended an official luncheon.
