Queensland Rail is reminding customers to plan their journey in advance ahead of the June long weekend, as important maintenance works are scheduled on the Caboolture and Sunshine Coast lines.
Tracks will be closed between Northgate and Gympie North stations from first train Saturday 7 June to last train Sunday 8 June, and from Northgate to Caboolture on Monday 9 June while crews carry out a number of works including overhead maintenance, sleeper replacement, track reconditioning and Moreton Bay Rail Link project work at Petrie.
Queensland Rail Acting Executive General Manager Customer Service Alison Crosby said to minimise disruption across the wider rail network, it was important the closure took place at the same time as work further up the Queensland coast.
“Although we don’t like to impact our customers, sometimes sections of our network need to be closed so that we can continue our priority to provide a safe and reliable service,” Ms Crosby said.
“Our ongoing focus on maintenance and reliability has delivered our best on-time running performance in more than a decade, with an average of 96 per cent of City network customers arriving at their destination on time throughout the last four quarters (April 2013 – March 2014).
“In planning such significant works, we consider the competing needs of our Caboolture and Sunshine Coast customers, freight customers, neighbours, event organisers and the impact on our workers and our network.
“We aim to give as much notice as possible to customers, by listing planned closures on our website and work closely with event organisers to provide alternate transport.
“Throughout the weekend rail replacement buses will be in place, however we encourage people to plan their journey ahead of time.”
The Scheduled Corridor Access System (SCAS) calendar is published in advance at queenslandrail.com.au and updated regularly to give organisers more information to forward plan their events.
