Businesses and residents are invited to start thinking about how they can inject some extra colour and excitement along the Santos Tour Down Under race route by taking part in the Santos Best Dressed Town competition.
All towns, suburbs, businesses and households along the race route, from stages 1 to 5, are encouraged to enter the competition for their chance to take out a title.
Minister for Tourism Leon Bignell said the Santos Best Dressed Town competition was a great way for communities to share in the excitement of the Santos Tour Down Under.
“The fun, colourful atmosphere created by entrants in the Santos Best Dressed Town competition is enjoyed by riders and fans alike,” Mr Bignell said.
“It’s great to see our communities getting involved in this wonderful event and we encourage everyone to start planning and preparing their entries now.”
The Santos Best Dressed Town competition began in 1999 and remains a popular way for communities to embrace the spirit of the race.
Nominations can be made in three categories: Santos Best Dressed Town, Santos Best Dressed Private Residence and Santos Best Dressed Commercial Property.
Commercial and private properties dressing up as part of a town nomination are also encouraged to nominate in an individual category.
To be in the chance to win, nominations need to be submitted two days prior to the race being staged in your area.
Judges will be looking for innovative and environmentally friendly decorations that provide a sense of community and add to the appearance of the stages.
Prizes include a signed framed jersey, Peats Soil and the claim to the title as the 2014 Santos Best Dressed Town winner.

Stage 1 – Tuesday 21 January, Nuriootpa to Angaston
BikeExchange.com.au Stage 2 – Wednesday 22 January, Prospect to Stirling
Stage 3 – Thursday 23 January, Norwood to Campbelltown
Bupa Stage 4 – Friday 24 January, Unley to Victor Harbor
Stage 5 – Saturday 25 January, McLaren Vale to Willunga Hill
The Santos Tour Down Under will be held in Adelaide and regional South Australia from 19-26 January 2014.
