Attendance numbers are expected to double for the first official day of this years tourism and trade event, Tok Tok, which runs from 28 August to 29 August, 2014 at the Holiday Inn Resort, Vanuatu.
The event, which is in its 11th year, is expected to attract over 70 wholesalers from around the world including Australia, New Zealand, USA, Europe, China, Fiji, to discuss business opportunities with more than 100 local tourism operators, including provincial tourism offices, hotels and tour operators from around Vanuatu.
The two day event, which was opened this morning by Vanuatu’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, and Commerce the Honourable Ham Lini Vanuararoa, provides the industry with the rare chance to combine work with leisure. Guests are able to savour and soak up the rich and diverse offerings of the South Pacific destination firsthand, whilst also engaging with key contacts and generating further business opportunities.
Pre tours were conducted as part of the Tok Tok 2014 experience, featuring the islands of Espiritu Santo, Tanna and for the first time the island of Malekula. Buyers got a taste of some of the unique experiences Vanuatu offers, with activities including a visit to Mount Yasur, Tanna and diving the SS President Coolidge off Espiritu Santo.
Vanuatu Tourism Office (VTO) general manager, Linda Kalpoi said Tok Tok 2014 is an integral part of its tourism strategy and not only provides a platform to encourage and develop business opportunities but also puts the destination under the spotlight for key industry personnel.
Tok Tok is a very valuable event on our calendar and this year we have decided to incorporate the theme Vanuatu and its cultures to get our visitors thinking about Vanuatu as a diverse destination, with plenty to offer beyond the popular fly and flop holiday experience it is often regarded for, she said.
Vanuatu is made up of over 80 islands but many visitors dont realise this or what unique experiences they each offer. Through events such as Tok Tok we want to peel back the layers and showcase what the Vanuatu essence and cultures are all about and create industry ambassadors to help spread the word.”
This is also the first year that every provincial tourism office will be represented at Tok Tok so a big milestone and a sign that the event is strengthening its appeal here and abroad, Ms Kalpoi said.
Tok Tok 2014 will wrap up on Friday 29 August, 2014 with a gala dinner at Iririki Island Resort.
