Record Year for Orlando Sanford with Over Two Million Passengers

Orlando-Sanford-airportOrlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) announces a record breaking year processing over two million passengers through its gates in 2013, up 12% from 2012. The two millionth passenger flew on December 27. The total of 2,033,620 passengers breaks the previous record of 1,840,453 set in 2008. SFB also recorded new monthly highs in seven months, while posting greater than 100,000 passengers every month of the year, including three months of greater than 200,000.

The Airport’s main carrier, domestic airline, Allegiant Air was responsible for over 77% of the total traffic with 1,577,098 passengers. Allegiant inaugurated 10 new destinations in 2013.

With two additional destinations announced for February starts Allegiant now offers more nonstop destinations (54) than any airline from any airport in Central Florida.

While total international traffic was down 8% to 417,858 in 2013, scheduled international traffic was up 8%. Scheduled international airlines ArkeFly and Icelandair both saw an increase in passengers for the year. The United Kingdom (UK) charter passenger traffic was down 10% with 323,318 passengers in 2013. A highlight of the UK charter business was when, in July, Thomson Airways inaugurated the first regularly operated 787 Dreamliner flight to the state of Florida.

Orlando Sanford projects an increase of 10% in total passenger traffic in 2014 with over
2.2 million passengers.
