The Nagasaki Prefecture of JapanJapan will soon open a hotel that will be staffed with robots and other advanced technologies. With “A commitment for evolution,” this hotel is definitely setting a trend in the hospitality business.

The hotel has already been given a name Henn-na Hotel, which translates to ‘Strange hotel’ and strange it will be initially where the smiling, petite and polite staff of the otherwise Japanese hospitality industry will be replaced by “actroids” (robots with strong human likeness) that will act as receptionists. They will also have the capability of responding with intelligent conversation to human guests. Services like porters and other engaging menial tasks like cleaning will be done by robots.

The Nagasaki Prefecture of Japan, which has a theme park modeled after the Netherlands, Huis Ten Bosch announced the plans of opening this hotel.

The first phase of the two storied hotel will open in July 17 and will have 72 rooms ready to serve guests. The second phase will be completed by 2016 where an additional 72 rooms will be provided.

Huis Ten Bosch President Hideo Sawada is confident that this will be the most efficient hotel in the world. He hopes that the property will be run 90 per cent if not fully by robots.

There are plans of building 100 similar hotels around the world. The company is also quite sure that this will be a low-cost futuristic hotel in the industry. With facial recognition technology for guestroom doors, minimal amenities in room which can be available on requests through tablets, a radiation panel to detect body heat in the room and adjust the temperature accordingly instead of air-conditioning, solar power and other energy-saving features will reduce operational costs in the hotel.

In the peak season instead of having fixed room rates guests will have to bid for their rooms and the highest bidder will be able to procure the room however a price check will be there on every bid.

The hotel room fees at opening will be from JPY7, 000 ($60) for a single room to JPY18, 000 ($153), the highest possible price after bidding, for a triple room. Deluxe rooms will cost more and prior bookings can be made through the hotel’s website.
