Ryder Cup Ticket Sale Puts Golf Fans First

Published on : Tuesday, August 19, 2014

Ryder-Cup-Ticket-300x201Ryder Cup Europe has today released 3,000 Match Day tickets on general sale in an initiative designed to ensure as many golf fans as possible get the chance to be part of The 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles next month.

Organisers have announced a first-come-first-served sale of the tickets for play on Friday September 26, Saturday September 27 and Sunday September 28. The one-off sale begins today, Monday 18th August.

The tickets represent a final tranche of returns from the event’s commercial family and with just over a month until The 2014 Ryder Cup begins, the decision was made to ensure as many members of the public as possible could make use of them.

Richard Hills, Europe’s Ryder Cup Director, said: “It’s common for a small number of General Admission tickets to return once the final round of commercial allocations are complete. We are delighted to be able to release these tickets to the general public – it is great news for the event and will add to the very special atmosphere only The Ryder Cup can produce.

“Tens of thousands of people made the effort to register for Ryder Cup tickets last year, and while many were successful, many others were not. Therefore, we wanted to make these tickets available to them as well to people who perhaps hadn’t registered before.”

Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis through an online sales process at www.rydercup.com, the official Ryder Cup website, with up to four tickets being available to purchase at one time. Crucially, anyone wishing to purchase a ticket will still need to register their photograph online first, a process that can take up to 24 hours. If you have already done this, you need simply to use the registration ID number you were already given. Photo registrations will be processed in the order they are received. Each registration ID entitles the holder to purchase one Match Day ticket and one Practice Day ticket.

VisitScotland has also moved to reassure those who would require an overnight stay in order to attend that there is still some accommodation available near Ryder Cup Park and Ride locations in Stirling, Perth and Balado and in other areas across Scotland within easy travelling distance. Ticket holders requiring accommodation are urged to visit www.visitscotland.com or to call the VisitScotland Contact Centre on 0845 22 55 121.

Mike Cantlay, Chairman of VisitScotland, said: “With tickets still available for The Ryder Cup Match and Practice Days at Gleneagles, and the opportunity to experience the exceptional opening Gala Concert at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, there is still the opportunity to be part of one of the greatest sporting events in the world, and I would urge everyone to take this once-in-a-lifetime chance to get involved.

“Spectators are coming from 75 countries worldwide to attend The 2014 Ryder Cup and as such accommodation pick up has been strong. However, there is still some accommodation available and given the central location of Gleneagles in Scotland and the excellent transport links, The 2014 Ryder Cup lends itself perfectly to those even wishing to stay a little further afield and combine a trip to the event with a golfing holiday in one of Scotland’s many terrific golfing regions.”

Richard Hills added: “In addition to the Match Day tickets, tickets for the Practice Days are also available via the website. These days are a fantastic way to experience the occasion on a budget while still getting the chance to see the world’s elite golfers up close and personal.”

The 2014 Ryder Cup takes place over six days and encompasses three ‘Practice Days’ – Tuesday September 23, Wednesday September 24 and Thursday September 25 – and three ‘Match Days’ – Friday September 26, Saturday September 27 and Sunday September 28.

Daily Tickets range in price from a £10 concession ticket for Under 16s on the Practice Days, to £145 for a Sunday ticket, while a range of combined ticket options is also available.
