The 238-square mile island of Saint Lucia has been judged “Best Caribbean Destination” by readers of Travel Weekly – an internationally recognized travel industry newspaper.
All of the winners of the 11th annual Travel Weekly Readers Choice Awards were honoured this week at a gala awards dinner and ceremony in New York.
The awards are presented to suppliers considered by Travel Weekly readers to be leaders in product and service delivery during the past year.
Winners were selected in 62 categories in the airline, car, destination, hospitality, agent education, tour, cruise and theme park sectors. Organizers say a record number of industry voters – just under 9,000 – participated in the process.
“More than one billion people will cross international borders this year, and many times that number will travel domestically,” said Arnie Weissman, Travel Weekly’s editor-in-chief. “Somebody has to counsel, transport, entertain, enlighten and house all these travelers and the Reader’s Choice Awards winners are the very best at doing just that.”
Saint Lucia beat out well known Caribbean destinations like Barbados, The Bahamas and Jamaica and joined Costa Rica, Hawaii and South Africa on the list of “Best Destinations” in their regions.
