This week, Savannah was named No. 4 in the “Top 10 Grand St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations” by National Geographic Traveler. This new designation comes at an appropriate time with celebratory events ramping up this week in anticipation of the holiday weekend and hotel rooms still available.
“Our lodging partners, including hotels, bed & breakfasts and vacation rentals tell us that plenty of rooms are available throughout the marketplace. With the holiday on Monday this year, many folks are planning a three, four or even five-day visit,” said Joseph Marinelli, Visit Savannah president. “When they get here, they will find a wide array of new restaurants to choose from as well as galleries, museums and tour options of all types.”
Visitors can still find places to stay throughout the Savannah area and will find many activities to participate in upon arrival to the city. The Tara Feis celebration, typically held outside the week of St. Patrick’s Day, will be held on Saturday, Mar. 15 this year, adding another Irish activity for visitors. Other events include the Tybee Island parade on Saturday, Mar. 15 and the Saint Patrick’s Day parade in Savannah’s Historic District on Monday, Mar. 17.
“The timing of the announcement by National Geographic Traveler is ideal as we prepare for the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebration in the South and for the thousands of visitors who will come to our city,” said Marinelli.
