download-37Tasmanians can look forward to better events management following the announcement of three scholarship winners who will attend the Australian Centre for Event Management this week.

The Minister for Tourism, Scott Bacon, said the winners will spend this week at an intensive Executive Certificate in Event Management program in Melbourne.

The receipts are:

• Erin Collins – Artistic Director and Committee President of the Cygnet Folk Festival;
• Ixa de Haan – Community Development Officer with the West Tamar Council; and
• Dane Hunnerup – Project Officer Arts and Events with Clarence City Council.

“It is vital that we continue to support events in Tasmania whether through direct funding or by ensuring there are well trained organisers across the state as they increase Tasmania’s profile and appeal as a destination for visitors,” he said.

Mr Bacon said that events such as The Wooden Boat Festival, Dark MOFO, the ATP Burnie Tennis Challenger and Junction Art Festival have a significant impact on Tasmania’s economy, and draw visitors from around Australia and overseas.

“All three of the scholarship recipients have significant event track records in their current and past roles.

“Ms Collins has volunteered her time to Cygnet Folk Festival as Artistic Director since 2011 and this year was appointed Committee President.

“Mrs de Haan delivers a range of events through her role with the West Tamar Council, provides support to community events in the municipality, and is particularly passionate about the revitalisation of the Three Peaks Festival.

“Mr Hunnerup coordinates a range of events for Clarence City Council, and has been involved in event management through his previous roles with Music Tasmania and Amplified for Arts Tasmania,” he said.

Mr Bacon said that 26 Tasmanian event organisers have benefited since the inception of the scholarships.
