Severe snowstorm disrupts travel services – tourists stranded in Tokyo

japan-snowstorm-300x220 (1)More than hundred flights were cancelled; railway service suspended and roads were closed due to a heavy snowstorm in Japan. More than 10 inches of snow fell on Tokyo over the weekend.

The disastrous weather resulted in some frustrating travel disruptions and major road accidents killing 11 and injuring more than 500 severely. More than 20, 000 homes are without electricity at the moment the last reports came. A severe snowstorm alert is issued in the capital of Japan.

The international tourists and the Tokyo residents faced the worst snowstorm in the last 13 years in this weekend. Tourists are stranded at the Tokyo airport. Some 60 Hongkongers were stranded at Tokyo’s Narita Airport on Monday. Many national airlines have despatched emergency flights to Tokyo to bring back the stranded travelers.

According to the latest reports from the weather forecasters, more snow is expected in the eastern Japan in the coming days.
