shangri-laShangri-La Hotels and Resorts has launched “Bayanihan for the Philippines”, a public and internal campaign to support relief, rebuilding and rehabilitation operations in two villages in Daanbatayan that were devastated by Super Typhoon Yolanda. Daanbatayan is an area about 140 kilometres north of Cebu.

Shangri-La is offering two ways the public can help support aid efforts:

• Through 31 December 2013, Golden Circle members can donate GC Award Points, which Shangri-La will match one-for-one and convert to money. Shangri-La will contribute an additional US$20 for every 1,000 points donated, up to one million points. The money will go directly to relief and reconstruction efforts being spearheaded by Shangri-La in two villages in Dannbantayan.

• Cash donations can be made by following instructions found on the dedicated microsite www.shangri-lacares.com. The site will track donations, how the funds are spent and progress made in the adopted barangays, Tinubdan and Dalingding.

Shangri-La colleagues have been working since the typhoon struck on 8 November to assist affected communities easily reached from Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu, which is the base camp and centre for coordinating Shangri-La’s relief operations. To date, approximately 5,650 relief boxes have been supplied to communities in need.

“Bayanihan, which means communal unity in Filipino, is a concept that resonates strongly for all of us at Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts,” said Shangri-La President and CEO Greg Dogan. “Through our presence in Cebu, we are able to mobilize our own resources and partners in order to deliver aid as fast as possible.”

Shangri-La operates five hotels in the Philippines. The group’s resorts in Cebu and Boracay did not suffer any significant damage from the typhoon and both are fully operational.

Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, one of the world’s premier hotel companies, currently owns and/or manages more than 80 hotels under the Shangri-La brand with a room inventory of over 34,000. Over four decades the group has established its brand hallmark of ‘hospitality from the heart’. The group has a substantial development pipeline with upcoming projects in mainland China, India, Mongolia, Philippines, Qatar, Sri Lanka and United Kingdom.
