Silicon Valley Airport Marks Tenth Consecutive Month of Passenger Growth

download42Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) served 747,867 departing and arriving
passengers in October 2013, a 4.8 percent increase compared to the same month last year.

This is the tenth consecutive month of year-over-year increased passenger traffic, for an overall calendar year-to-date increase of 5.3 percent.
The upward trend at SJC is expected to continue through the current calendar year because of expanded air service choices for Silicon Valley travelers, new carriers coming to San José, and an improving local and global economy.
SJC added two new airlines in 2013. All Nippon Airways now has daily flights to Tokyo-Narita on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner after its initial launch in January. Virgin America arrived at SJC in May, and along with Delta Air Lines each added four daily flights to Los Angeles. In October, Delta also added more service to both Atlanta and Salt Lake City.
Other large increases in passengers in October were posted by Alaska Airlines, American Airlines and Southwest Airlines. Alaska expanded service to both Guadalajara and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, as well as added frequency to Seattle. American added more flights to Dallas Fort/Worth and Los Angeles. Southwest added frequency to Orange County and Seattle.
“New and existing airlines continue to do well at Silicon Valley’s Airport as evidenced by our past ten consecutive months of growth. Even more good news is that Southwest Airlines, our largest carrier, is adding more flights to Denver, Orange County, San Diego and Seattle in spring 2014,” said Director of Aviation Kim Becker Aguirre. “It’s apparent our carriers are experiencing strong passenger bookings and are listening to Silicon Valley businesses and residents’ requests for more flights, and for more elbow room onboard as our flights are generally quite full.”

With 13 domestic and international airlines, more nonstop destinations and increased flights, SJC wants even more Silicon Valley and greater Bay Area travelers to choose Silicon Valley’s Airport.
The “Fly San Jose” campaign reminds the community of the value, ease and excellent on-time record SJC offers due to San Jose’s 330 days of sunshine annually. Ads can be seen on Highway 101 billboards, online and in newspapers, and heard on local radio stations.
