Flight MI152 departed Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 2 at 0810 hours, and is scheduled to arrive in Yogyakarta’s Adisucipto International Airport at 0930 hours. The return flight, MI151 will depart Yogyakarta at 1100 hours, and is scheduled to reach Singapore at 1425 hours (all times local)*
Yogyakarta will be the 45th destination in SilkAir’s network, extending the airline’s reach to 12 destinations in Indonesia. SilkAir’s other Indonesian destinations include Balikpapan, Bandung, Lombok, Makassar, Manado, Medan, Palembang, Pekanbaru, Semarang, Solo, and Surabaya.
SilkAir’s flights to Yogyakarta are three times weekly, with departures on Monday, Friday and Sunday. The flights will be operated by the A319 and A320 aircraft, featuring both Business and Economy Class.
Gateway to the famous Borobudur Buddhist Temple and Prambanan Hindu Temple in Central Java – both Unesco World Heritage sites – Yogyakarta is the hub of classical Javanese fine art and culture, renowned for its puppetry, batik and poetry. A city steeped in history and tradition, it was the seat of the ancient Mataram Empire in the 18th and 19th century. Yogyakarta is blessed with natural wonders and rich Javanese heritage, and is the second most visited Indonesian destination after Bali.
To celebrate this milestone, customers on the first flight out of Singapore were presented with a special Wayang Kulit bookmark and inaugural flight certificates personally signed by Chief Executive SilkAir, Mr. Leslie Thng, and the flight commander. Customers travelling on the inaugural flight out of Yogyakarta received exclusively produced SilkAir notebooks as well as the specially signed flight certificates.
“The launch of these direct flights to Yogyakarta reinforces SilkAir’s commitment to the Indonesian market. There is favourable demand and strong growth potential from both corporate and leisure traffic to Yogyakarta,” said Mr. Thng. “With these new services, SilkAir has further strengthened our foothold in the Indonesian market and connects Singapore with more Indonesian cities than any other carrier.”
With this latest launch, SilkAir’s frequencies to Indonesia will now increase to 70 flights weekly.
From a broader perspective, these new flights connect Yogyakarta with the joint Singapore Airlines – SilkAir network of over 90 cities worldwide via the Singapore hub.
For Yogyakarta customers visiting Singapore, the Lion City promises a wide variety of attractions such as Marine Life Park, Adventure Cove Waterpark, Universal Studios Singapore, Gardens by the Bay and the famous Night Safari at the Singapore Zoological Gardens. Singapore also offers world class shopping and dining options around the city.
