PHX-Sky-300x124Passengers at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport now have the option of filling their water bottles with chilled, filtered water before they board their flight. America’s Friendliest Airport has installed free bottle filling stations past security near the entrances to all of its concourses. There are seven water bottle filling stations available in the Terminal 4, which serves approximately 80 percent of Sky Harbor’s passengers. In addition, there are four bottle re-filling stations in Terminal 3 and two in Terminal 2.

This new amenity gives passengers the option of carrying an empty re-usable water bottle through security, then filling it once they pass through the checkpoint. “These water bottle filling stations are already very popular with our customers,” said Becky Gawin, Deputy Aviation Director for Facilities and Services. “Not only do they offer passengers an added convenience, they are a sustainable feature, reducing the use of disposable plastic bottles.”

The bottle filling stations are easy to find. They are attached to drinking fountains, which travelers pass on their way to the gates. Anyone who has filled a water bottle from a drinking fountain knows how awkward and time-consuming it can be. These units are specifically designed to accommodate water bottles and to fill them easily and quickly. Passengers are already taking advantage of the new amenity, filling their water bottles thousands of times per day.
