visit-kent-logoThousands of lucky winners of free Kent Big Weekend tickets are being encouraged to take their mobile phones and cameras when they head out to discover the visitor attractions and experiences on their doorstep on March 29 and 30.

More than 100 destinations are opening their doors for free to Kent Big Weekend ticket holders in the countywide celebrations of Kent’s tourism, leisure and hospitality industry – an industry that contributes more than £3.4 billion to the local economy every year.

But everyone visiting a Kent Big Weekend attraction over the two days, not just free ticket holders, can enter Kent Big Weekend’s first Vine competition and two photo competitions for a chance to win membership of English Heritage for two offering great free days out throughout the year.

Photographs can be submitted in two categories – People, showing friends and family enjoying the Kent Big Weekend celebrations, and Places capturing the spirit of the destination to encourage others to visit.

Meanwhile, to enter the Vine competition just complete a six second Vine video of a Kent Big Weekend experience and then contact @visitkent via Twitter with a link to the Vine video and the hashtag #KentBigWeekend.

Details of the competitions and all the attractions taking part in the Kent Big Weekend 2014, marking the start of English Tourism Week, can be found at  And there are still Kent Big Weekend free tickets available on the website for immediate download as ticket winners now unable to take advantage of their days out return them for other people to use.

Sandra Matthews-Marsh, chief executive at Visit Kent which organises the Kent Big Weekend, said: “We have broken all records this year with the widest-ever range and number of attractions and destinations taking part and 115,400 applications for the 20,000 free tickets on offer.

“It is going to be a tremendous weekend. All we need now is some record-breaking temperatures so that we can see our glorious gardens, historic houses, castles and cathedrals at their springtime best and savour every moment of rides aboard our special trains and riverboats.

“Every year our 3,000 tourism businesses supporting 64,400 Kent jobs entertain more than 57 million people. The Kent Big Weekend gives us all the chance to get out and about and then share our experiences with friends and family looking for a fun day out in our county.”
