South African Airways (SAA) affirms its commitment to reimburse customers who purchased tickets during the duration of the baggage wrapping trial at ORTIA, but travelled after the trial had ended.
Customers who wish to apply for this refund are advised to comply with the requirements set out in this communication. Customers who purchased tickets on SAA flights departing from OR Tambo International Airport from 28 October 2013 up until 22 May 2014 and travelled before 22 January 2014 or after 22 May 2014 can apply for a refund of R30 and R50 for domestic and international flights respectively. Conditions apply.
Airport Operation Stations at SAA’s domestic airports (Johannesburg, Durban, East London, Cape Town, and Port Elizabeth) will process refunds, with the exception of reservations that were made through travel agents.
In respect of travel agent bookings passengers will apply for and receive their refunds through their respective travel agents. In instances where the payment for tickets was made by debit cards/cash, ticket sales at the airports will process such refunds. Where a credit card was used the refund can still be processed at the airports.
Customers are advised to bring the following supporting documents or articles for refund processing:
• For credit card refunds: ID must be presented and the ticket will be refunded to the credit card that was used to purchase that ticket.
• For cash and debit transactions, ID and copy of the e-ticket must be presented.
The announcement on customer refunds follows last week’s announcement where the airline advised that following on from the conclusion of the baggage wrapping trial (which ran from January until 21 April 2014), it is now taking steps towards the implementation of baggage wrapping for customer bags on a permanent basis.
